President Paul Biya’s Anti-COVID-19 gifts arrived Buea, South West Region on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 and were received by the Governor of South West Region, Bernard Okalia Bilai.
Receiving the Royal largesse comprising cartons of soap, hand-washing buckets, hand sanitizers, protective masks, containers adapted with taps, waste water collectors were loaded in four lorries at the Esplanade of the Governor’s Office, Governor Okalia intimated that the gifts were just the first lot, adding that a subsequent consignment is still awaited from Yaoundé. He further explained that the Presidential gifts were an eloquent testimony of President Biya’s concern towards the population’s safety against the current pandemic which is not only wreaking havoc in the South West Region, but the world over.
The Governor equally reassured attendees at the reception scene that he will make sure the gifts reach of all the nook and crannies of the six Divisions and 31 Subdivisions of the region within the shortest possible time. While urging the beneficiaries to apply to the letter, the social distancing measures amongst others prescribed by the government to curb the killer virus, Governor Okalia assured the population of utmost accountability regarding the gifts’ distribution.
The Presidential gifts were transported from Yaoundé to Buea under the auspices of the Minister of Territorial administration, Minister Atanga Nji Paul. On board to give the event its deserved grandeur were the South West Regional Command Staff including the Senior Divisional Officer for Fako and all his Subdivisional Officers.
