MINCOM provides elaborate and satisfactory responds to Members of Parliament

To ensure the effective control of government actions by Members of Parliament, Members of Government are entitled to provide answers to oral questions from Parliamentarians on certain key aspects or issues that concerns the nation. One of such key issues is the availability and access to vital official information to Cameroonians.
While affirming that government communication is inadequate and not elaborate on positive projects and achievements realized by the state, citing the case of the Government Action Fair (GAFA) and the Adaptive Safety Nets projects with tremendous benefits to Cameroonians, Honorable Elise POKOSSY DOUMBE, Member of Parliament for the Wouri East constituency concluded that government communication is fraught with shortcomings, and sought to know from the Minister of Communication, Mr. Rene Emmanuel SADI, on Friday April 04, 2025, government’s communication strategy, its legislative reforms and the administrative mechanisms envisaged by the Ministry of Communication to make communication a real tool for development at the service of the nation during his passage at the National Assembly for oral questions and answers. Due to the importance and sensitive nature of her question, it took the Minister of Communication over eleven minutes to provide an elaborate and satisfactory response. Minister Rene SADI, began by acknowledging that these communication initiatives may not seem visible or adequate due to the density of governments achievements on the ground and the growing demand for information by the population. Since government communication is a constant preoccupation of the Head of State, Minister SADI stated clearly that the issue is not just enough to communicate something but also making known what has been communicated, reason why the government is working to put this presidential directive into practice by communicating on a daily basis on the many actions and achievements of the administration. In addition to this the Minister said, the coming of the Virtual Information Agency (AVI) will significantly add content and accessibility of news and information on national life. With a network of over 58 divisional correspondents and 10 regional coordinators, information will be processed and transmitted daily for consumption through all digital platforms including mobile phones. On the question on the coordination of government communication, Minister SADI made allusion to article 31 of Decree No. 2012/380 of September 2012 which gave the Ministry of Communication the prerogative to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate government communication strategies for national and international audience. He added that even though other government institutions have the leeway to communicate at their own and interest, the Ministry of Communication during government communication collaborates with other government ministries so as to obtain timely information on the activities of the various ministries as well on matters on the life of the nation. He revealed further that the problem of synergy in government communication will be resolved with the coming of a Central Committee for the Coordination of Government Communication in which all the ministries will be involved. He concluded that all these put together with the availability of the ministerial auditorium, a veritable venue for press conferences, currently at a completion state of modernising to meet the requirements of the time have an overriding objective to make government communication a tool for good governance, democracy, and economic, social and cultural development at the service of Cameroonians.
