900 Hostages Freed from Boko Haram

The Minister of Communication, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, granted a press conference on December 02, 2015 to inform Cameroonians and the world of the outcome of the special operation led by Cameroon’s Defense and Security Forces from the 26 to 28 November 2015 against Boko Haram in the Far North Region.

The Minister revealed that the Emergence 4 and Alpha units of Cameroon’s Defense and Security Forces, in collaboration with the Sector No 1 of the Multinational Joint Task Force of the Lake Chad Basin Commission based in Mora, in total synergy with Nigerian forces neutralized and killed hundreds of fighters from the enemy ground and freed 900 persons held hostage for several years by Boko Haram. He said one of the neutralized enemies include the so called Aladji Gana, who doubles as the chief of Boko Haram operations and also commander of several attacks led against Cameroon. Following that operation, huge stocks of weapons and ammunitions as well as propaganda material such as jihadist flags were seized from the enemy. The Minister of Communication affirmed that substantial means in terms of military equipment intelligence and staff have been put at work by Cameroonian High military command, to obtain such results whose impressive balance sheet once again testifies to the firepower and more generally, the professionalism of our Defense and Security Forces.

The press conference was equally an avenue for the minister to reiterate the congratulatory message by the Head of State, His Excellency President Paul BIYA to the Defense and Security Forces for their braveness. He equally conveyed the Head of State’s homage to the vigilante groups and Cameroonians in general for their constant commitment, bravery, loyalty and unfailing determination to suppress the criminal goals of the Boko Haram terrorist organization on our national territory.

The International community was not left aside as he lauded their precious support to the President of the Republic, and to the entire nation in this combat. This he buttressed by remarking that since the address by the Head of state in his response to the New Year wishes of the Diplomatic Corps in early January 2015 in which he called on global mobilization against terrorist aggression at world levels, has seen support come like an echo to his call.

While acknowledging the media present on behalf of the government, reminding them of the satisfaction of the Prime Minister, Head of Government who had earlier called on them to preserve and strengthen their commitment to solidarity, citizenship and responsibility, the Minister of Communication concluded by encouraging Cameroonians to therefore remain vigilant and more than ever united behind our Defense and Security Forces, behind our Institutions and behind the person who embodies them at the highest level , that is to say the President of the Republic, His Excellency Paul Biya.
