MINCOM -ELECAM launch practical guide for journalists covering presidential election
The Ministry of Communication in collaboration with ELECAM have presented a practical guide for journalists covering the October 12 presidential election. This was during a working session between MINCOM and ELECAM on the one hand and media professionals on the other. The proposed mechanism focuses on raising awareness among journalists on best practices during an electoral period.
Presided by the Secretary General of MINCOM, Felix Zogo, representing Communication Minister in the presence of Director General of Elections at ELECAM, Erik Essousse, he emphasized the collaboration’s goal is to ensure media professionals effectively fulfil their roles during key democratic events.
Two key presentations highlighted the meeting. Orain Baughas, a journalist, shared insights on combating deepfakes during the electoral period using IT tools, while Abdoulkarimou, Deputy Director General of Elections at ELECAM, briefed journalists on essential legal practices outlined in the Electoral Code.
With heightened professionalism and rigor, journalists can provide citizens with timely and accurate information, contributing to a credible, peaceful and inclusive electoral process.
