The Minister of Communication, Rene Emmanuel Sadi and his counterpart of Water Resources and Energy, Gaston Eloundou Essomba have clarified the public on the agreement that led to the government’s reacquisition of 51% stake previously held by ACTIS in ENEO’s capital for 78 billion CFA francs, a payment to be made within a 60-day deadline. This move makes the State of Cameroon the main shareholder of that public entity and now controls 95% of the capital. This was during a press conference that was held November 21, 2025.

By reaffirming its sovereignty, the government is going to revive investment, restore the credibility of the national energy sector and stabilise energy distribution.
The Government Spokesperson reiterated that the availability of electricity is one of the priorities on the political program of the Head of State in this new mandate.
The Minister of Water Resources and Energy, Gaston Eloundou revealed that the planned transition will enable the current management team to continue running day-to-day operations without making any major decisions.
At the same time, it will enable the State to take the time needed to put in place a management team capable of implementing the reforms that are essential to the sector’s recovery.
Another good news from this transition is that the 3,600 Cameroonian employees will continue to carry out their activities normally. The Government has already taken steps to protect these employees’ rights and social benefits.
Through this move, the government is committed to fight against fraud in the sector. It should be recalled that losses due to fraud amount to around 60 billion per year.
The government therefore plans to address this issue by installing 15,000 smart meters in medium voltage and low voltage substations. This will not only enable flow management, but also generate additional cash flow.
This important decision by the Government will stabilise the electricity sector on a solid footing and strengthening the State’s energy sovereignty in this highly strategic sector.
