The Government of Cameroon has unveiled a new roadmap to strengthen the country’s mining sector through the launch of major mining projects and comprehensive reforms of the gold mining industry.
Speaking during a joint MINCOM-MINMIDT press conference at the Ministry of Communication, the Minister of Communication and Government Spokesperson, René Emmanuel Sadi, in his opening remarks highlighted the important and strategic transformation of the mining sector. He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to transparency and regular public engagement on key national development issues.
Presenting the Government’s achievements, the Acting Minister of Mines, Industry and Technological Development, Professor Fuh Calistus Gentry, announced that Cameroon entered the ranks of mining-producing nations in 2025 with the commissioning of five major projects: the Bipindi–Grand Zambi and Kribi–Lobé iron ore projects, the Minim-Martap industrial bauxite project, the Bidzar industrial marble project, and the Colomine gold project.
The Acting Minister also outlined the Government’s reform agenda for the gold mining sector under the new Mining Code. The measures include stricter environmental safeguards, greater national participation through majority Cameroonian ownership, strengthened fiscal obligations, mandatory production thresholds and the adoption of cleaner mining technologies.
According to Professor Fuh Calistus Gentry, the reforms are intended to restore State authority, improve transparency and traceability, combat fraud, protect the environment and ensure that Cameroon’s mineral wealth contributes more effectively to national development.
The press conference concluded with Minister René Emmanuel Sadi reaffirming the Government’s determination to sustain dialogue with citizens while pursuing reforms that promote responsible resource management and inclusive economic growth.
